Celebratory gatherings

We are happy to discuss all sorts of lunch, dinner or drinks options for birthday, wedding anniversary and other civilised celebratory parties. However, please understand that we hate to cramp anyone's style and past experience has made us wary of rowdy events - and to that end we rarely host stags or 30th birthdays (and younger) unless we are absolutely convinced they are not going to be wild!  We positively encourage small, peaceful gatherings – and offer discounts for those who want to have a day-time event that finishes relatively early, and discretionary discounts for local residents.

Lunch parties

Occasionally, the barn is available for a late, lazy lunch on Sunday – and midweek - for a small or large group of guests. We have all the tableware so you simply turn up with the food or your caterer from an agreed time which will vary depending on what is booked before.

You can get a musician in, borrow our piano, play croquet or go for a stroll around the farm nature trail or book a guided tour of the house and garden before settling down to a cup of tea and cream scone before leaving in the late afternoon or early evening. For those who have to travel a distance, there is bed & breakfast available in the farmhouse.

Drinks parties

Enjoy a midweek evening with friends without trying to squeeze them into your house - space to stand, sit if you wish and mingle. We’ll move the barn furniture to accommodate lots of guests or make it feel cosy with a smaller group.

Catering for parties

There is no obligation to use any particular caterer - we do have a list of regulars who we think are great!

For small parties with a smaller budget consider midweek and late Sunday afternoons and evenings (4pm onwards) all year.  Otherwise contact us for specific dates.

40th adventure
… We cannot stop talking about all the amazing memories we have and the surprise when you opened the barn door will live with me forever. It really is a most magical place and we all had tears in our eyes when we had to leave. I am sure you are incredibly proud of the work that has restored the barn into a place of such beauty…. I am sure that we will be back one day for another adventure. Alison & Richard ... & again since

50th drinks party
The party appears to have gone down very well - what a great venue, yummy food, relaxed and friendly staff, lovely champagne etc. In fact many people commented last night on how wonderful your barn is - also that, unusually for drinks parties, people could actually hear each other! One or two said they wished they could have stayed the night as well in those comfortable looking beds! Christopher & Emma, March

Bigger and better than web pictures
… a fantastic venue, even bigger and better than the pictures had indicated. Having the bikes, the tennis court and table tennis was perfect for our family. Daniel was especially appreciative of the piano and gave us quite a performance on Saturday night …. Thank you for your vision in creating such a great place. It was the perfect spot to celebrate my Dad’s 80th birthday. Jane, October

Enchanted 60th birthday family gathering
... for myself and my husband and all our guests - they were enchanted with the spectacular venue! We had such a lovely and totally memorable time and your local knowledge and helpful advice and suggestions made the organisation easier for me! I would love to use your barn again - will just have to find a valid celebration! My daughter has expressed a desire to have her wedding in it - she'll just have to find the right man! Barbara, October

Lunch for Swedish guests on East Anglian culture tour
I cannot tell you how much my 20 Swedes enjoyed lunch in the barn. They kept talking about it and were clearly quite overawed! It certainly was a pleasure to be able to show them such a unique place as Milden Hall. Lee Persson, Tour leader & journalist May 2005 – & returned again since

Tudor evening
The highlight was our own DIY 7-course banquet, with games, quizzes and competitions between each course. It was my son who compared the evening and he was in his element with a microphone! Most people came in costume so we had prizes for the best and one prize especially for the most 'interesting' codpiece - there was even a musical one!! Everyone thought your barn amazing and a wonderful venue for the occasion. We had a fantastic time and will definitely remember you for other get togethers. Ingrid, May 2008 & again since

Long tables with candles
We will never forget walking into the barn and seeing the beautiful Christmas trees and the long table with the candles …. Just magic! A stunning and spectacular venue! Box family, Christmas party, December

Ruby celebration in a loved place
…thank you both enormously for providing the setting and ambience for what was a wonderful occasion for us …. You went far beyond what we had the right to expect to make it all work so well and professionally yet in a friendly and relaxed way. We could not have wished for a nicer setting - the magnificent barn and the garden of your lovely home - to gather our old friends and family together, and we feel very blessed. One guest summed it up when she said that you could tell that this was a loved place, which must be the nicest and most perceptive comment…. Penelope & Andrew, June

Twins’ 80th
.. I have had nothing but praise from our guests for the barn .... Frank & Ralph, October

Idyllic English countryside
…everything went perfectly because of your help and guidance…  Everyone thought the barn and setting were beautiful and fell in love with it as did we when we first saw it one very dark evening last autumn. The barn and garden provided just the atmosphere we were seeking – which was one of a very relaxed summer Sunday afternoon, in the heart of the English countryside, surrounded by birds and wildlife. It was idyllic. Reg & Marie May, June

Renewal of vows
... such an amazing experience and was the perfect place to make our Tudor event something that people will remember for a long time. We will highly recommend the Barn to others we know. Lynda & Peter, September
