Artists' venue - barn or bunkhouse
Bring your paintbrush and easel or your camera and do your own thing or ... Bring your A-level art or photography course, your art group or society to draw and paint interesting ancient buildings (barns, granary, museum with artefacts, house, gazebo, walls) landscape (hedges, ponds, meadow, woodland), wild and garden flowers, farm animals (pigs, chickens) – all in peaceful surroundings without anyone looking over your shoulder except your tutor! A superb artists' venue whatever the weather!
And for schools we offer environmental arts and crafts, willow weaving and wildlife-related arty activities as well as a perfect location for strengthening your art or photography GCSE/A-level portfolios.
There are several options on how to do it:
- Your group can come and stay, with or without a tutor, and self-cater or we can arrange half-board or full board in either the barn or bunkhouse or both.
- You can book in just for the day – bring a picnic and use the barns and other buildings as a wet weather option.
Creative arts - with dance and music
Creative Arts Weeks have put on creative courses that combine art, dance and music in the Easter and Summer holidays since 2014 for a wide age range of children. Themes have drawn inspiration from artists such as David Hockney and Andy Goldsworthy, and musicians such as David Bowie and Paul Simon. In spring 2017 children developed the theme of 'Machines' with inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci and the farm machinery here at Milden and learnt to build and programme Lego computers along the way. In summer 2017 children designed, performed and directed their wonderful (and very short) Alice in Wonderland inspired black & white Silent Movie. In 2018 they studied the Blues in the spring and then experimental photography in the autumn - all with amazing results.
