Breakfast & the B&B bedrooms
Enjoy a delicious breakfast of bantams eggs, home-grown sausages and fruit compote in the large sunny hall living room, warmed in winter by a large woodburner – and well stocked with books, maps and local information.
The three guest bedrooms have spectacular views across ancient wildflower meadows, hedged Suffolk countryside and our walled garden. They contain period furniture, beautiful pictures, books, magazines, flowers (and of course, the tea and TV).
This is an ancient listed 16th century hall farmhouse, and as such, please don’t expect en-suite bathrooms – we simply don’t have them. All bedrooms share a spacious bath/shower room with views across half of Suffolk, a second loo and access to a second bathroom at peak times.
Please note this is completely separate to the self-catering Tudor barn or Old Brooder bunkhouse.
The Adams Room Double or sometimes a family room, with basin
The very large room with tapestry was re-modelled in the Adams style in 1770 as an upstairs ladies’ sitting room (with a fine fireplace and early woodwork), and then used in the 1800s by six spinster Hawkins as their sewing and spinning room.
Enjoy a very comfortable king-sized bed, a single bed for a child (plus room for a cot or another bed). It has a sofa and armchair - and still room to do cartwheels across the floor!
The Adams Room has a basin overlooking the walled garden but, be warned, it is a trek to the loo and shared bathroom – for which we provide dressing gowns – and there’s plenty to see along the way. If you’re the only guests, you simply take a short cut through another room!
2+ night rate - £80/night for double occupancy. 1 night rate - £85 for double occupancy. 1 night Friday or Saturday rate - £90. Plus £30 for each additional child under 10 in single bed/cot
The Becker Room Twin, next to shared bathroom
The walls of this delightful twin bedroom are covered in pencil drawings, etchings and watercolours by Harry Becker, an amazing Suffolk impressionist painter and etcher who drew the Suffolk countryside and farm life he loved. The room has a lovely view of our ancient wildflower meadow and half of Suffolk.
This twin room is immediately next to the shared bathroom – and across the landing to the Gallery twin room. It is sometimes available as single occupancy.
2+ night rate - £70/night for twin occupancy. 1 night rate - £75 for twin occupancy. 1 night Friday or Saturday rate - £80. Single occupancy - £50. 1 night Friday or Saturday single occupancy - £60
The Gallery Room Twin or sometimes a family room, next to shared bathroom
Nearly every inch of the very large Gallery room walls is covered with antique Suffolk maps and prints and an enormous wall-to-wall bookcase heaving with books. You can sit in the armchairs and enjoy the views over high Suffolk to the north and the walled garden to the south.
The twin beds are queen size (that is, larger than single and smaller than double) and there is still lots of room for an extra cot or bed if the other rooms are full. The room is immediately next to the shared bathroom – and across the landing to the Becker twin room.
2+ night rate - £80/night for double occupancy. 1 night rate - £85 for double occupancy. 1 night Friday or Saturday rate - £90. Plus £30 for each additional child under 10 in put-up bed/cot
