The Cartlodge

The cosy, underfloor-heated, end of the main Tudor barn is available for sole use for small groups of up to 7 guests at short notice and in the winter months

The 17th century Cartlodge is integral to the Tudor barn but we sometimes let it as a standalone property - at short notice and at rather longer notice in the winter months. The Cartlodge has a ground floor double bedroom with bathroom en suite, a huge and very lovely well-equipped kitchen, a lobby for muddy boots and upstairs, a tiny twin bedroom and a second with three singles which doubles as a TV snug room. It comes with use of 7 adult road bikes, tennis court, table tennis …. and all the outdoors things on the farm that is mentioned elsewhere on this website. Scroll down for more information and photos.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen

Downstairs: Ground floor double with bathroom ensuite; second bathroom accessible to all. Both bathrooms have baths, showers and loos.

The Cartlodge kitchen has a big central table that seats up to 14, a modern double oven cooker, two dishwashers, microwave and all manner of cooking vessels and tableware.

Upstairs: A tiny twin (normal sized beds!) accessed via a twin (and third pullout single). This room also doubles as the TV snug.

Outside - garden, tennis court, farm trails & bikes

Explore the rest of our website for all the activity ideas we have on-farm and beyond. Hire of The Cartlodge includes use of gardens either side of the barn with BBQ, picnic tables, croquet, badminton, table tennis, table football - and a tennis court. Hire also includes use of adult road bikes with lots of planned circular routes. For those who would rather go at a sedate pace, explore the farm trails around our working farm with woods, ponds, ancient meadows.

Booking opportunities

Because the Cartlodge is integral to a larger Tudor barn booking, we let it:

For small groups of 2-7 at weekends only at relatively short notice when we have late availability (eg winter months). Check late availability pages or contact us.

For small groups of 2-7 midweek with more notice, especially in low season winter months. Check late availability pages or contact us with ideal dates.

Extra guests: You’re also welcome to tack on extra guests who can sleep in the adjoining Tudor barn (with an eco-option in winter that involves the woodburner but not the full-on heating!) or sometimes stay in our Milden Hall farmhouse next door and come over to socialise with the rest of you in the day. Realistically you can sit 12 very comfortably at the kitchen table.

Dogs

By arrangement, we welcome one well-behaved, non-super-hairy, dog that sleeps downstairs on the tiled floor with its own bedding. Sorry, no puppies. We ask that the dog is on a lead anywhere near our farmhouse (free range hens and much loved cat) and all dog mess is cleared up.
