We can provide masses of space to practise and perform together and lots of small areas to practise and learn in small groups. Musicians regularly perform here at weddings (harpists, guitarists, cellists, singers) and we have musicians come and write songs here. Some groups return annually with their tutors ... for masterclasses and concerts indoors and outside.
Arpeggione (www.Arpeggione.org) is a viola course of chamber music, masterclasses, orchestra and taster class for violinists - 2020 will be the eleventh anniversary of courses at Milden!

Wow! What a truly amazing place! You could not have been more helpful to all our mad requests for this first Arpeggione course. You have provided us with spectacular food, farmhouse accommodation and rehearsal rooms. We’ve had such fun doing concerts, masterclasses, dancing, mask-making, silk painting .... hope we can return next year. (Jacky Woods, Arpeggione April 2009 & annually twice a year ever since!)
Creative dance, art & music
Creative Arts Weeks have put on creative courses that combine art, dance and music in the Easter and Summer holidays since 2014 for a wide age range of children. Themes have drawn inspiration from artists such as David Hockney and Andy Goldsworthy, and musicians such as David Bowie and Paul Simon. In spring 2017 children developed the theme of 'Machines' with inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci and the farm machinery here at Milden and learnt to build and programme Lego computers along the way. In summer 2017 children designed, performed and directed their wonderful (and very short) Alice in Wonderland inspired black & white Silent Movie. In 2018 they studied the Blues in the spring and then experimental photography in the autumn - all with amazing results.
Check out the next Creative Arts Week course 27-30th Aug 2019.
Musicians and singers
Musicians who just want to get together come and play in the lovely barn space - we've had guitarists, drummers, pianists and musicians with ancient instruments and bands who wish to practise or enjoy each other's company. As long as the whole barn and neighbouring houses are not shaking or awake late into the night, we're happy to consider all enquiries!
Singing for 'Three Days in May' has become an annual course with songs joyous and sad, crazy and contemplative, led by Roger Jackson and Sue Pomeroy - and mostly acapella with a few instruments occasionally. 2019 was Americana and check out Sing's website for 2020's music genre. Music in the mornings and evenings and time to explore Lavenham and beyond in between and wonderful food in between times.
