Activities here or near
Here’s a taster of those that don’t cost the earth (in every sense)
We send you lots of activity ideas and contacts when you book. There’s lots of simple, low carbon-footprint things to do here on the farm - and plenty of fun things nearby for you to organise direct.
Cycling for all
Each property has its own fleet of 22+ adult road bikes for those aged over 16 (weight <15 stone) included in hire fees. Serious cyclists and children do please BYO!
Explore the local villages on our short and long planned circular routes that take in nature reserves, friendly pubs, historic churches and millennium greens where you could take a picnic - or have it delivered! Alternatively explore the historic Wool Towns and villages with a bike trail quiz we’ve devised.
Walk & picnic
Walk around our farm trails through woods and meadows and picnic by a pond. Families can potter around the farm tracks doing a scavenge hunt along the way.
Borrow our laminated planned circular routes, walking leaflets and OS maps and set off for a day, or daily for a week exploring the local Long Distance Paths (St Edmunds Way, Stour Valley Path), meadows, the riverbanks, ancient woodland, nature reserves, disused railway lines, Wool villages and National Trust properties en route. Take a picnic or eat at a pub.
Try Walking in Suffolk for some good ideas.
On-farm, outside
Barn guests can organise a tennis tournament.
Each property has badminton, table tennis, croquet and boules and barbecues - in the gardens.
Play football, rounders or Frisbee on our meadows - if the lambs have gone or the hay has been cut!
Families can try some ideas from the family activity pack – build a den, put a meadow in a matchbox, do tree hugging, leaf weaving or pond dipping
Kayak or Go Ape
Kayak or canoe down the River Stour from Sudbury or hire a rowing boat from Flatford Mill
Paddle board down the River Stour
Antique hunt - in Long Melford and Lavenham
Go Ape in Thetford Forest
Pampering sessions at local spas
Organise combination ‘adventure days’ locally – clay-pigeon shooting, archery, fly-fishing
Tudor evening
Barn guests can borrow our Tudor costumes and tableware and enjoy a Tudor evening - we’ve got menus, quizzes and dancing challenges. Children can delve in the dressing up chest and put on a play.
Yoga, dance, music or cooking
Get a dance tutor in – for Tudor, Tango, Burlesque or Street dance or get a fiddler and caller in - for barn dancing
Yoga, pilates, acroyoga …. take some time to enjoy the peace of the place.
